Disinfestation of Coaches at Primary Depot

Disinfestations of Railway coaches is unique in the sense that since food articles are carried by passengers on board, cockroaches/ insects/d pests and rats manifest themselves in the absence of any effective pest control. The scope therefore, envisages thorough disinfestations of Coaches periodically to eliminate pest/rodent problem completely.
Given below are the details of Coaches required to be disinfested and their frequency at Coaching Depots:

Instructions for Disinfestations treatment

  1. Disinfestations is to be carried out as per the frequency of treatment given above to eliminate the problem completely. 
  2. The chemicals used should be periodically altered/ changed in order that cockroaches/ insects and other pests don’t become resistant to the chemicals.
  3. It should be ensured rigidly that the chemicals used should be safest ones and not pose any kind of health hazards to the passengers and Railway staff.
  4. Disinfestations is to be done by spraying of suitable effective disinfectants of appropriate concentration in the interior.
  5. The spraying should cover all the areas of the coach including toilets , water basins in compartments, attendant/ linen cabins, gap between window glasses, crevices/ hideouts in corners and under berths/ rexin, curtain railings, Ac control panels, seats , roof ceilings , racks , body panels , Ac ducts , dust bins  , vestibules  below under floor areas,   all nooks/ corners and other vulnerable places harbouring cockroaches and other insects.
  6. Different disinfectants used for spraying should be used cyclically to prevent insects acquiring immunity to these disinfectants.

  9. Apart from the above, Cockroach Gel is to be to be applied for residual effect in case of stubborn persistence of the cockroaches once in three months or at such intervals as found necessary fogging shall be carried out using king fog (Bayer (I) Ltd once in three months or at such intervals  as found necessary.
  10. In the event of Rodent infestation noticed or complaint received, the coach concerned should be fumigated with Cannon plus smoke Generator. A minimum of three generators should be placed in a coach for effective rodent control.
  11. After disinfestations, the contractor should keep all the window shutters and doors closed for appropriate time as deemed fit. If the interior spraying is not completed on the platform, the contractor or his representatives shall proceed with the rake to the respective yard and complete the spraying.
  12. The treated coach may be moved to yard for maintenance purpose from the platform and contractor shall arrange staff to accompany to the yard to open the coach after the stipulated time and also to remove all the dead cockroaches and other pests.
  13. The disinfestations shall be done with the coach completely shut and which shall remain so for adequate period of time to enable the insecticides/ chemicals to have the desired effect, and thereafter aired out/ deodorized well in time before occupation by passengers.
  14. The treatment to the coaches / rakes should be done on all week days through out the period of contract including Sundays and Holidays during day time and night time as the maintenance schedule  of various rakes.
  15. After the disinfestations work is completed, the date of disinfestations along with the details of the disinfectant used shall be stenciled with paint on one end panel of the coach outside.
  16. The disinfestations of coaches are required to be carried out as per the coach scheme details give by Coaching Depot Officer or by one nominated for this purpose.
  17. The spraying of the interior of coaches for disinfestations treatment should be attended without causing detention to trains on this account.
